Masterclasses: Develop your skills

The Sustainability Startathon Masterclass is an integral part of the entire program. The purpose of the Masterclass is to enhance the knowledge and skills of our contestants in order to excel in tackling the problem statements, in producing quality and impactful solutions as an effective team, as well as delivering your solutions in a professional and inspiring manner.

Before any teams can successfully submit their Solutions for judging, ALL team members MUST complete the MANDATORY COURSES of the Masterclass program and achieve at least 80% score in each of the courses. Failure to complete mandatory courses will result in disqualification.

Contestants are strongly encouraged to learn and complete the OPTIONAL COURSES as they are beneficial in their professional development and enhance their career-readiness.

Instruction for Masterclass Learning
  1. Successful registrants for the Country Round Startathon will receive an email to access the Masterclass Learning Management System. You can start learning now.

Problem Statements:

You and your team will select ONE Problem Statement from the following.
  1. With increasing urbanization and climate impacts, how can cities integrate nature-based solutions to enhance resilience against climate extremes such as floods, heatwaves and storms, while maintaining liveability and sustainability?
  2. Urban areas generate significant waste, which contributes to pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. How can cities implement circular economy principles, such as upcycling or resource recovery to create sustainable urban ecosystems that minimize waste and promote responsible consumption?
  3. How can cities leverage technology to scale up climate-positive innovations such as low-carbon transportation, energy-efficient buildings and renewable energy systems, reducing urban carbon footprints while fortering economic growth?

Submission of Solutions:

All submissions of solutions to the Sustainability Startathon Country Round should comprise of the following:
  1. 1 team 1 submission
  2. One representative of your team submit the project.
  3. The submission link must be named according to the format:
    ACIYLS 2025_[Team's name]_[Leader's name]_First Round
  4. The submission link must contain 3 files:
    • 01 Video file: ACIYLS 2025_ [Team's name] _ Video ———> All presentations have a time limit of 5 mins! This is a strict time limit and presentations after 5 mins will not be considered for assessment. Be brutally efficient with your time!
    • 01 PDF file: ACIYLS 2025 _ [Team's name] _ PDF ——> Your presentation file must be converted from PowerPoint to PDF.
    • 01 folder of images: ACIYLS 2025_ [Team's name] _ Master Class ——> Screenshots proving that all members of the team have completed the Master Class courses with scores of 80% or higher.
