Masterclasses: Develop your skills

The Sustainability Startathon Masterclass is an integral part of the entire program. The purpose of the Masterclass is to enhance the knowledge and skills of our contestants in order to excel in tackling the problem statements, in producing quality and impactful solutions as an effective team, as well as delivering your solutions in a professional and inspiring manner.

Before any teams can successfully submit their Solutions for judging, ALL team members MUST complete all the COURSES of the Masterclass program. Failure to complete these courses will result in disqualification as this is part of the selection process.

Thus, contestants are strongly encouraged to learn and complete all the FIVE COURSES as they are beneficial in their professional development and enhance their knowledge around sustainability.

Instruction for Masterclass Learning
  1. Successful registrants for the Country Round Startathon will be given the OSG Masterclass portal and click through the Enter Masterclass to create an account.
  2. Receive an email within 24 hours to access the Masterclass Learning Management System then you can start learning all the courses.

Problem Statements:

You and your team will select ONE Problem Statement from the following.
  1. SDG11: AI for Sustainable Cities and Communities

    As hubs of economic growth and innovation, cities face numerous challenges such as traffic congestion, energy waste, waste management, and more. How can AI technology be leveraged to design solutions that optimize resource allocation, reduce pollution, enhance efficiency, and promote green spaces—making cities more low-carbon and livable? Submit your smart city/community technical design proposal.

  2. SDG13: AI for Climate Action

    With extreme weather events becoming increasingly severe and threatening communities worldwide, renewable energy sources like solar and wind power are crucial in combating climate change—such as drastically reducing greenhouse gases and limiting emissions through climate-resilient development. But how can we improve their efficiency? Using AI technology, design an optimization strategy to help communities or households utilize renewable energy more effectively and accelerate the adoption of green energy.

Submission of Solutions:

All submissions of solutions to the Sustainability Startathon Country Round should comprise of the following:
  1. Proposal Plan –

    Practical solutions leveraging AI for sustainable cities/climate action. Presentation deck in PDF Format.

  2. Creative Video/Graphics –

    Engaging visual storytelling to promote SDG awareness. All videos have a time limit of 5 mins!

Selection Process

  1. Specialized judging panels will evaluate entries based on category-specific criteria.
  2. Participants can track their progress in real-time via the official registration portal.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Relevance to Theme –

    How closely the work aligns with SDG11 (Sustainable Cities) and SDG13 (Climate Action).

  2. Innovation & Practicality –

    Whether the proposal demonstrates originality, real-world applicability, and actionable solutions to addressed challenges.

  3. Technical Application –

    Effective and innovative use of AI technology to enhance the proposed solution.
